As a child a came to resent most adults when I discovered that they present a false persona to everyone else, hiding their true thoughts and feelings and only revealing what they want others to see. It was much later that I discovered it’s not because they’re adults, it’s because they’re neurotypical.
Yeah, I always feel a little hypocritical when we have a set screen time for the 10yo, and we enforce it pretty strictly, while I’m pretty much on screens for about 10 hours a day between work, doom-scrolling, catching up with friends online, and playing addictive casual games…. It’s probably why I tend to give him more leeway when it’s just us two for an afternoon. Though, I also feel like the fact that my husband and I are online so much actually is helpful in that we know more about which online trends are an actual cause for concern for the kiddo than most parents.
